Lord of the Rings, Great novel or Greatest novel?

We all know that the movies kick ***, and so does the book. The Lord of the Rings is one novel, written in six book, often published in 3 volumes.

It's a great novel. Definitly one of my favourites, but with all the fantastic novels that have been written, how can you chose one to be the best of all? I personally can't!

And to whoever made the comment they don't want to think when reading a book, perhaps you should just stick to movies. The Hobbit is one of the easiest books out there to understand. My 12 year old brother loves at, and he't not known for his brilliance. That line spoken by Gandalf is hilarious! It's so witty! Was it really tough for you to wrap your mind around that concept?

The Lord of the Rings is a great novel. I wouldnt go so far as to calling it the greatest. Tolkien was a genius when it came to fantasy writing. It is in my top ten of favorite books(series) of all time. Its funny that his writings have been out since the late 60's and 70's. I read all three(well four if you include the Hobbit) novels for the first time when I was like 12 or 13. I am now 31. They have always been bestsellers and classics. The recognition they deserved didnt come til the release of the movies. It tells you something about our society. It doesnt read enough!

I didn't really like it. I tried reading the Hobbit before the movies ever came out and I got bored. I mean at the first part I thought the hobbits were rabbits or something. I don't know. Then the line "What do you mean good morning? That the morning is good, or that the day is good whether I like it or not, or that it is a morning to be good on?".

I don't want to think so much when I read.
