mild heat applied 20 minutes at a time will also speed healing. you can take ibuprofin for the pain. otherwise rest should do it. see the dr. if it isn't better within a week.

Rest is the first step. Taking an anti-inflammatory is the next. Taking a couple of Advil, ibuprofen, whatever you have available will aid in this. Also, put some ice on it. Within a few days you'll feel fine.
Should your muscle still be bothering you a week from now, you will definitely need to go to the doctor as this would be a sign of injury or something much more severe than a strain.
I just read others telling you to put heat on your injury: Please do NOT put heat on a strain or sprain. In these instances, we in medicine use an acronym called R.I.C.E.: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Heat will not help a sprain or strain - it is more effective for bruising/contusion and other injuries where blood clots in an area.

No, on the contrary, that muscle is laying there dormant when in fact it should be active & alive! Physiotharapy, massage (u can do yourself) must take place in order for blood circulation to take
place. Leaving it dormant will just tighten it up and make it worse. Focus on it, it pains use a muscle ointment, but don't lay
there Thinking you just need to rest it or you'll be resting it for a long time!
Best o" Luck,
Summer

I learned about this in a sports medicine class...you're right, don't waste the money on a doctor. Only thing that will help is rest, ice, compression, and elevation about the heart. Hope you feel better soon.
PS. Don't use much heat because it can cause swelling.

I would think that all depends on how you were injured, how bad the pain is/if any, what your job may be(if it could be irritating). I would suggest heat to help blood circulation, and rest it,but there could be more if you have a more severe injury. So that's about it,let us know what is really wrong......maybe we can help then.
