I'll second the motion for torrentspy. You could also try thepiratebay.org, demoid.com and torrentbox.
For a client try Utorrent. It's free, stable and uses very little system resources.
As an alternative, try newsgroups. They are usually provided free by your ISP so check their homepage for details. Try the free NewsXpress reader for your software.
For the more technical minded you can try IRC. Internet Relay Chat is one the first filesharing networks, coming to life shortly after newsgroups. It's a little harder to master, but worth the effort. Mirc is a nice app for the IRC network though LeafChat is a nice free alternative.
I listed these from easiest to hardest since bittorent is very easy.
I'd avoid LimeWire. The Gnutella network is flooded with malware and fakes. Gnutella2 is following though the FastTrack network of Kazaa fame is the worst. Bittorent is policed by the users and fake or bad torrents die fairly quickly. Check the comments on the torrent for problems, it's a good pointer for finding crap. I've provided links so you can make a more informed decision.
Good luck!
PS-Get peerguardian2 to help keep such suckheads as the RIAA off your tail. It's free and a must for all P2P apps.

i dont think u can find somewhere to download it for free, but i recommend that u wait a few more weeks and i bet u the price is going to go down now that windows vista is out.

that way u can get a ligitimate copy of windows.
