You SHOULD NOT clean a cat littler box while you are pregnant. There is bacteria in cat feces that causes toxoplasmosis in humans...which really won't hurt an adult, but could harm a fetus, including making it blind. There is a chance you have already gotten the toxoplasmosis earlier in life and don't even know, and this won't hurt your baby, but to expose your baby to the bacteria by scooping the box now is VERY hazardous to baby's health. Ask any doctor...that's the first thing they told me when I found out I was pregnant, besides don't smoke or drink alcohol. Have your man clean the litterbox for you. For your baby's sake. Best of luck!

When I found out I was pregnant, I was fostering kittens from the animal shelter. They weren't old enough yet to find homes for them, and I ended up having to still change their litter. I spoke with my doctor about this, and she said that it wasn't something you should do, but at the same time, there wasn't much I could do about it. I put on a mask and washed up a lot when I was finished. My doctor was pretty sure that if I hadn't gotten the disease (toxisomething) before the pregnacy, most likely I won't get it now.

Honestly, it's not a good idea to change the litter, but sometimes we don't have a choice. I would speak with your doctor about this, but she/he will help you with some ideas if you can't stop changing litter (who wants to live in a house full of stinky litter either.)

Refrain from it till your baby is born, or have someone do it for you. If you have know one to do it for you I suggest you wear disposable plastic gloves and do it before you shower or bath.

Hold your breath as you empty it out. I have seen Plastic garbage bags made to fit the cat litter box, a litter is put in and Arm and Hammer Kitty deodorizer is added to it.

Clean it often and don't let it sit being full and Stinky!!!!!

Mr Clean diluted with water in a spray bottle can be used to mist around the box (Floor) germs and bacteria. You can even mist the contents of the litter after cleaning (Before they use it).

Also keep your cats inside during your pregnancy as in letting them go out will bring in more germs.

no this is a big mistake, dont let any moron tell you this is okay, read a baby book for petes sake. When I was pregnant I read every baby book possible. by the way everyone knows the first 3 months are very important to the fetus, but actually the first 3 weeks determine if any teratogins will harm the baby.

...dont clean your kitty litter any more have somebody else do it...it can be VERY harmful to your baby...the Juilan person is right :)...the doctor should have given you something or what not about safty issues for you & your unborn child...but being around the cat is just fine...just stay away from from the litter...probably a good idea to put it on the porch or backyard or in the garage until baby is born... :)

please get somebody else to do it. Its a big NO. I lived in a condo and had 2 10yr old indoor cats which i love deeply, they even sleep with me. But when it comes to cleaning the litter, i get somebody else to do it. During the cleaning process, dont even go near the area. I delivered a healthy baby boy.

Absolutely NOT!!! Cat feces have a thing called toxoplasmosis and it was studied and proved it will hurt your baby!!! Have somebody else clean the litterbox for you. My friend wore rubber gloves during her preg. to clean her litterbox. You'll have to discuss that with your doctor.

no, you do not clean your cats litter while you are pregnant. there is some sort of disease or virus that you can catch from it. i'm surprised your doctor hasn't told you about it already.
