What are some good comics?And Why? What does TPB stand for?

First guy's right - Trade Paperback. Usually those are collections of books from a particular title. Marvel has been doing this a lot with their 6-book story arcs lately.
As for what to read - right now I'm reading X-Men (1991), and New X-Men (Academy X). I hear 52 is good from DC, as is Green Arrow... Daredevil is ALWAYS good from Marvel...
I have to say though that I'm not a fan of the whole 'Civil War' thing. Spider-Man would never reveal his secret identity to the public, because it's irresponsible. Every super villain in his rogues gallery would say, "oh hey look! Let's kidnap or kill MJ and Aunt May!" Think about it. Avengers Mansion or not. People have broken into the Avengers HQ before. Iron Fist did it back in the 70's. So I'd caution you against the Civil War line up but maybe that's just me.

Strangers in Paradise is really good. I've been buying comics for a good 20 years steadily, and SiP is the only comic that I have bought continuously. the characters are interesting and the story is well written. it is also easily available in TPB form. I recommend the first 6 or so TPBs.
I just read the first 20 or so issues of New Avengers, and they were good. Well written super hero stuff, with a sense od humor and good art.
I didn't like the recent Crisis and 52 stuff from DC.

The first guy is right TPB stands for Trade Paper Back. Manga (the Japanese word for comics) are really good, but if you are looking for American stuff, I like Batman for mainstream and Strangers in Paradise for off the beaten path.

TPB means Trade Paper Back.
As for comics, that really depends on what you're into. If you like super heroes then there are tons of those. There are also drama, comedy, horror, sci-fi, action/adventure, fantasy, romance, anime, etc.
Just take a look around and see what catches your eye.
