It reveals different attitudes people have. Some people see chess as a relaxing pastime, others as a competition. Who gets the most out of the game?

Watching how simple moves translate into complex positions reveals the importance of reflection, practice and care in everyday decision making.

The fact that more speedchess players develop into high ranked players than do 'thoughtful' ones (those who try to analyse situations and take their time), says something interesting about the way we learn and become skilful.

Every tried playing chess against yourself? It's incredibly boring. Shows how important it is to have other people in your life.
