It would help if you told us what genres you like, but here goes...
if you're a newbie to anime, some good ones to start with are Sailor Moon, Pokemon (NOT the English Season 9 episodes, the voices there are terrible; watch Seasons 1-8 in English for an example of a half decent English dub) and Cardcaptor Sakura.

It really depends on what you like...
For example, it you like shoujo manga, I would recommend something like Ouran Host Club.
If you like shounen manga, I would suggest Bleach or Naruto.
Other things I would recommend: Gravitation, Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, and watching anime in Japanese with English subtitles because dubs suck.
