no, reluctant is unwilling. Maybe it would be good if it was reluctant to give in. A good one in my opinion is surrender, succumb, yield, or even relinquish

I would say submissive, but if you are talking about a book I cant really understand what you mean by a book is "giving in" anyway, good luck finding what you need and I hope that helped.
