You could do the Coneheads or any of the movie monsters. If your particular humor falls more in the acting like a character than the costume then I recommend doing Nathan Detroit from Guys and Dolls and act like a ganster all day. There is of course James Bond or Indiana Jones. All kinds of female characters to do (Scarlet O'Hara, a princess, Erin Brockovitch, etc). Dickie Roberts- former child star. Michael Jackson from the Wiz, Alflafa, Johnny Depp's character from Benny & Joon, Robin Hood (the men in tights version), pick a guy from Animal House, Pat (the SNL character who had a movie). Of you could always go obscure and just dress in a suit and have people try to guess who you are based solely on hints you give out through the day (be a spy but act stupid and your character is from The Man Who Knew Too Little).

Movies that are considered classic tend to go over better at this kind of thing than a recent movie. You appear unique and it shows you have alot of imagination. Girls love it when you dress like a screen heart throb (Bond, Indy, etc) and then live up the character - the key is to acting in character.

Jake or Elwood Blues, depending on your build, but you need a buddy that matches the other character. The Mask is a good solo character and pretty easy to come up with a costume for-find some old suits from the 40's at a thrift store and find green make-up (also consider shaving your head).

Maybe you should consider going for ultra-cool instead. That means only one man, James Dean. Pour motor oil all over yourself and re-enact the scene from "Giant" when Dean strikes oil if you still want a laugh.

I vote Ron Burgundy. If not that, then maybe Ben Stiller's character from Dodgeball (White was his name, I think).
