How do i save games on super mario brothers?

Question

i have the "new super mario" for my nintendo ds. okay, how do i SAVE games?! do i always have to wait for it to ask me, or can i do it manually?

You have to beat a castle in order to save but once you beat it
you can save when ever you want and you can't save it manually

You can only save games after defeating a castle or spending star coins to open up access to mushroom houses. However, after beating the entire game once, it will allow you to save the game at any point by pressing pause.
