Indigo children are the most recent generation of children being born that fit this specific model. There are actually previous generations with different names, and basically it's a blanket term used to describe children being born with special abilities and purposes. It is believed that the Indigo children being born (which started probably in the 80's) are going to grown up and be vehicles for change. For example, think of all the teens and young 20 somethings right now and what do you think of? Vegetarians, animal activists, save the rain forest environmentalists, political rallying against the war, etc. These children are expected to change the world for the better.

These children all seem to display similar types of attitudes and quirks as young children. Many of them have problems learning and keeping their attention focused, many have behavioral problems or act out, they often defy their parents and may be less organized than other children, and beyond all this it is said that they sometimes have an Indigo-hued aura. These children appear to have a deeper connection to the earth and are likely to become vegetarian, active in environmentalism or become very interested in animals and nature, and things like that.

There are some great books out there about Indigo children, and if you think you may be one, have a child that is one, or are just interested in the topic, I highly recommend you look into reading about it!

Indigo children is a term used within the New Age movement to refer to children who are alleged to possess paranormal attributes such as the ability to read minds.The Indigo child concept was first publicized in 1999 by the book The Indigo Children: The New Kids Have Arrived, written by the husband-and-wife team of Lee Carroll and Jan Tober. Carroll insists that the concept was obtained via conversations with a spiritual entity known as Kryon.
The reason for the use of the adjective "indigo" is not universally agreed upon: some sources link it with an early researcher into the phenomenon, who was synesthetic. It has also been claimed that these children appear with an indigo-hued aura.
***Frequent Characteristics of Indigo Children***
* Are creative right brained thinkers but may struggle to learn in a traditional left brained school system
*May be strong-willed, independent thinkers who prefer to do their own thing rather than comply with authority figures/parents
*Traditional parenting and discipline strategies don’t appear effective with these children. If you try to force an issue, a power struggle is the typical outcome
*Have a wisdom and level of awareness and caring beyond their youthful experience
*Energetically Indigos are vibrating at a higher frequency so they can get scrambled by negative energy (human or machine)
*Emotionally they can be very reactive and may have problems with anxieties, depression or temper rages if not energetically balanced
* are very intuitive (often psychic) and may see, hear or know things that seem unexplainable
* tend to be more visual, kinesthetic learners so remember best what they can picture in their brain and create with their hands
* have more problems with food and environmental sensitivities since their system is more finely tuned
*When their needs are not met, these children appear self centered and demanding although this is not their true nature
*These children have incredible gifts and potential but may be shut down when not properly nurtured and accepted.
*Often are diagnosed as having ADD/ADHD since they appear impulsive (their brain can process information faster) and they require movement to help keep them better focused

That's what people call kids who are ADHD, spoiled brats, or kids that feel entitiled. Basically, it's when your kids have major issues but the parents are in denail and want to think they are 'special' or have 'psychic powers'. Which of course, they don't.
