Norton Anti-Spyware is not the best thing going. These Free ones are better and you should always use more than one.
Free Anti-Spyware:
--SPYBOT - SEARCH & DESTROY http://www.safer-networking.org/ Download and install Spybot - Search & Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with
the program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
--AD-AWARE http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware Download and install Ad-Aware. You should use this program to scan
your computer on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
--SpywareGuard http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareguard.html to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
--SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
Install & update SpywareBlaster with the latest definitions.
After you have updated, click the button - enable protection for all unprotected items.

Actually, not an answer, a thanks. gas_indyc I will definitely try it. I had system mechanic with Kaspersky anti hacker and antivirus - still got infected. Desktop is now in the shop becUSE IT GOT TO POINT i COULD NO LONGER GET ON LINE. nOW, SAME THING WITH LAPTOP. kASPERSKY DIDN'T WORK. nORTON DIDN'T WORK. nOD 32DIDN'T WORK. sPYBOT - oops, sorry about the caps. Spybot itself got infected. Bought webroot, didn't work. Only gives me cookies. Bought Xoftspy, didn't work. No adware tells me I have W32.HLLW.Heffe. I am not buying yet another program that doesn't work. All my programs are missing from add/remove programs. All my emails have disappeared. Programs start up by themselves or refuse to start telling me it's performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. So I know there's something in here! I don't want my laptop to crash too. And yes, they were all updated, and I scanned every day. I don't know how the heck stuff gets in. I don't go to many websites. Kaspersky was always telling mesome Helkern worm was trying to get in. Did it? How can something get thru so many different programs. (No, I didn't use them all at the same time.) Anyway, thanks for the suggestion, will give it a try. Something has taken over everything, AdAware included. Right now, I'm using Norton, and it never finds anything but cookies. So something is making false readings somewhere. Even Spybot says, Congratulations, nothing found. Then I ge t"KB918547 has altered windows system files "- which was a windows update! Laptop is 98 by the way. Desktop was Me, now being upgraded to 2000 because everybody's been telling me Xp sucks and takes up too much memory. Sorry to rant. It just ticks me off that I have to waste so much time and money trying to get rid of stuff. I even wasted money on cd's on ebay guaranteed to help.

if it hasn't picked it up during scanning then it isn't going to at all. norton sucks any ways. goto prevx.com and download it and run the program. you'll be amazed at what this program can do..
