im wondering what kind of things i need to do after i get married. like getting a new i.d and other things that involve getting my last name on credit cards and things like that changed.

take your marriage license to the bmv, they'll change your license
call the ss administration, they'll send you a form for marriage
i never had a problem with the credit cards, just call the customer service number...

You'll need to change all of your identifications that have your pre-married name on it, ie social security, drivers lisence. Your credit cards you can keep the same, unless it's important to you that they sport your new last name. Changing a name on a credit card is a major hassle. That's pretty much it. Anything that proves your identity must reflect your new last name ... is a good rule of thumb.

A woman who wants to take her husband's name upon marriage need do nothing beyond promptly beginning to use that name. Use your new name consistently, and be sure to change your name on all of your identification, accounts and important documents. To change some of your identification papers -- your Social Security card, for example -- you'll need a certified copy of your marriage certificate, which you should receive within a few weeks after the marriage ceremony.

If you are moving to a new place after you get married go to the post office and have all your mail forwarded to you and change your address.

it is horrible, I just got married and on one card i am one name and on the other i am my old name. I wish there was just one from to fill out but there is like 100 and you have to mail or fax them all him (god forbid they used email) and it is crazy! anyways congrats and good luck!

You poor soul. Now why did you go ahead and decie to screw up your life.

Hopefully you're already in your 30's and have lived it up like most women.

Oh and ladies you know exactly what I mean by "lived it up". So its not what you do after you get married, its what you do before you get married that counts.

if you are going to take his name you need to change your name on everything.
