I am still studying now under post graduates and I think with banking is not really a high qualification required as long as you are good in maths plus work experience.I have been working for well known company and I am not a kind of person who's changing jobs all the time. This is my second time to change job after 4years with the same company. I knew few people who hasn't got any degree or uni qualification doing well in this sector. Is it because I am over 30years old?or is it the clothes I am wearing?I am a very lady like and always wear business outfit when I go for an interview especially dealing with profesional sector.I use to read in artical saying that don't be too needy when go for interview,is it right?

Do you have the right degrees? It helps to have a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business. Also, try getting an MBA. Pretty much every ranking person in the banking world has one. Plus, you have to keep trying. There are a lot of qualified applicants, so they are very discriminating. Another option is doing internships at the company you want to work for. It helps to know people. My cousin's husband is a VP at UBS and he's been in banking since he was in college.

Sometimes there is no answer for it but persistence. I spent about a year of sending resumes and going to interviews before I got my first drafting job. Strange thing was after I finally got and accepted an offer I had a couple of other companies call with offers a few weeks later.

It doesn't seem likely that you could be too well groomed for an interview for a banking job. Maybe advise from a friend or relative as to whether or not your dress is neat and conservative enough for the job you are applying for.

I recruit for financial institutions including banks across the world and I can tell you that it is one of the most difficult fields/industries to get in to!

Most banking positions DO have a lot of specific requirements besides being good a Mathematics unless it is more of a customer service position.

In that case it is more about how the individual presents themselves in the interview situation. If you're getting -multiple- interviews but no job then you need to brush up on your interview skills. Also remember that most banks are conservative and your attire should match this characteristic.

And like someone else alluded to- it is a competition game. You may have the basic skills for the position, but does someone else have the exact experience they’re looking for (or just more experience). Keep applying and refining your interview skills!

The banking industry is a very close knit group. I suggest that you go to your banker. Talk to them. Ask for a recommendation and their advice. I am sure they will be helpful because they already have a working relationship with you. If you like numbers and counting, I suggest loan companies and accounting firms as well.

I doubt you're too well groomed. Just keep trying.

Banking is hard cuz they keep joining different banks together and firing people!
