I am currently living in Boston, paying 1000/month rent for a two bedroom condo. I make $17/hour my wife makes $8/hour. We r thinking of moving to a more affordable city and Pittsburgh seems very nice. We need advice about buying a house, like which neighboorhood would be nice and aforable. How is the job market, what would we expect to make there.

I used to live in Pittsburgh and there are many great, affordable neighborhoods. The great thing about Pittsburgh is there really are a lot of close knit communities within the city and in the surrounding suburbs. There really is a lot of culture- great arts, ethnic food, etc.

As for specific neighborhoods, it all depends on what you're looking for in a neighborhood- safety, good location, etc. if you were more specific, i could recommend some for you.

as for job markets- well, it's honestly not that great...but that depends on what you do. Certain jobs pay well BELOW average there. My friend was a chef, and was offered half the pay as an executive chef in most Pittsburgh restaurants, and had to move out of town to get three times what he was offered there... so, some jobs really don't pay well, there....

others that i believe do pay well- healthcare of any kind, bartenders, etc. It just all depends on what you do.

You could check craigslist- check the classifieds for jobs, and see what they are offering for what it is that you specifically do. All in all, (and i have researched and lived in MANY cities..) i have to say that the job market in pittsburgh IS pretty bad, and the pay is well below average... but again, there's always the exception to the rule, and it may just even out, because you won't be paying nearly as much for a general cost of living there. it's not really expensive to live in pittsburgh,
