Southern slavery continued to survive during the war, status quo. In the North the blacks were treated worse than the Southern slaves. Read some accurate history books and you may be amazed at how the Northern blacks were severely discriminated against, not only by the whites, but by the few blacks that did become at least reasonably successful. The war was not about slavery and most Northern blacks understood that. They weren't even allowed to join the military at first, until Lincoln signed the Proclamation. Then once they could join they only earned $10.00 monthly, while their white counterparts earned at least $13.00. Lincoln and others didn't think the blacks could make apt soldiers, since they were so "mentally defective". Sad but true and I just hit the high spots.

I saw a documentary that said the African Americans would be given cocaine so they would work harder during this time.

For the ones who were lucky they got there freedom paperwork if they fought for the North....

All I can think of at this moment.

One of the more famous journalist at the time was a half African American and his father was his mothers owner. He was sent by his father to Europe to get a way from the war and to learn. This son came back to America to help end slavery. Hopefully I remembered this right. I saw it on a documentary VHS tape I found at my library.

Below is a web site on black soldiers...

Too many to name. Are you talking about just during the civil war or the whole time they were discriminated against during slavery. Are you from this country? Look up slavery and you will find out all the terrible things slaves endured.
