I have written a screenplay that I think would be a great movie on the big screen as I am sure many others have but I would like to know the best way to market it.

Submitting it to the Writer's Guild of America and getting an agent would be a start.

Keep in mind though that the WGA recieves more than 50,000 screenplays each year and it's rather obvious that most of them don't make it. Good luck though!

EDIT: If you know any producers, you can try to e-mail a script treatment (3 page or so summary) to them. One of your best bets would be to find an agent who can get your script read by some producers.

Of course then even if the producer likes it, it has to be greenlit by a studio (which entails a lot of studio readers going over your script and they have to like it too and it has to fit with the studios set quotas for particular movie types). Going from a script to a film is an incredible task, but if you persevere you might be able to make it - if your script is good.

The best way is to get a literary agent and have them market it.

Have a look on Amazon - quite a few books on the subject.
