I was under the impression if you gave notice you should receive your final check on your last day. If you quit with no notice they have 3 days to pay you.

You should get paid for the time you worked on the same day you would have been paid for that time if you were still working there. There MAY be times your final check could be delayed to allow the company to determine if you are actually entitled to the full amount.
