It depends on the car and can vary greatly between two cars of the same make and model. It basically means you're below 1/8 of a tank and need to get to a gas station. For a rough (and I mean really rough) estimate, look in your owners manua for the tank capacity. Multiply that by 1/8 and you'll see it isn't much. With a 20 gallon tank, for example it's about 2 gallons. But, it could be less. The sensors are not dead on accurate. I really prefer not to let the tank fall below 1/4. That way I really don't worry about getting stranded.

Answer unknown to all us folks here. You will be only one to know this by looking at odometer when light comes on then keep driving until you run out of gas. Check to see how many miles you went since light came on...that will be the answer you seek. Keep in mind there will be variables to your answer based on speed you travel, terrain and position your car was in when light came on. Oh yes put a few gallons of gas in a gas can to take with you....you will need to use this to get to the next gas station.

the "light" should turn on above your head and pull into the next gas station and fill-up. more accidents have been caused because a car/truck ran out of gas in the middle of a freeway. and by the way the norm is approx. 2 gallons about 32 miles if you are easy on the gas.

I don't know but my daughter constantly was driving her car until the light come on and eventually the fuel pump stopped working. The mechanic says it running the car low on gas that burned up the fuel pump. It was expensive to repair. He said not to let the car get below a quarter of a tank.

many cars the gas warning light comes on when you have approximately 1 gallon left in the tank. So if your car gets 20mpg, then you have about 20 and so on. I would push the limit though.

Why do you want to cut it that close? When the light comes on, just stop at the next gas station and fill up!

you probably have 1 gallon left, but check the owner's manual. number of miles depends on how fast you drive and if you are on the highway or in the city.

My Honda Civic holds about £5 reserve, so it all depends on how many mpg you get out of your car, it’s not good to run your car when it’s low on fuel as it disturbs the muck on the bottom of your fuel tank and blocks the fuel pipe causing your car to cough and splutter. Peace ☮ L♥ve.
