Yes the petrolium will attack the seals in most paintball and Airsoft guns. Silicone spray won't it does just as good of a job as WD-40 int both types

The wd-40 is purely a greasing substance example to make a ball go through a hole that is to big u would use wd-40 to grease it the oil used in ur gun needs to have a different sort of texture to it so the wear on it when it hits an ejects the paintball it doesnt wear down the metal

Well, I'm a former paintball player and those guns are also pneumatic. WD-40 had a tendency to swell the seals in certain paintball guns, so I am guessing it's something along those lines.

It tends to dissolve plastic over time, which will ruin the gun.

It strips the barrel of it's oil coating.
