LCN evolved after several mob wars in the 20's. It was created mainly to avoid the vicious mob wars that had impacted business - they realized it was more profitable for everyone to work together than to fight and bring down the wrath of the law (like Al Capone). The first leader was Salvatore Maranzano, although he was killed 6 months after it got off the ground.
