try growing an Angel Trumpet. Its about 3 feet tall and has large white or yellow trumpet flowers about 6 inches long that smell really nice in the evenings. can take a lot of heat and sun. You'll need a big pot, at least 16" diameter. the bigger the pot, the bigger it will grow. you can buy them at the greenhouse in spring. you'll just need one plant. Use good quality potting soil, water regularily but dont overwater. you never need to fertilize this plant.

A rose tree or hibuscus would be colorful. They are considered annuals in zones above 9 so it will only be good for a season but both should flower easily and rose's scent will be a nice additional benefit.

a banana tree! It is easy to bring in for the winter... You just cut all the leaves down and put it in the garage or dark cabinet for the winter. It is also a fun conversation piece.
