They are for sound out, sound in, & the microphone.

Usually the manufacturers identify the connectors on the back of the sound cards. You may find various colors depending on the type of sound cards you have (standard or professionnal).
To better understand feel free to go at the http://cheap-computers-reference.com/pc-audio-card.html/, look at the pictures, read the text and try to compare these colors with the ones you see on within your sound card.
Read the text as a guide and try to plug your speakers. run a CD to try, plug and unplug, while the music is playing, until you find the right connector.
