That would be Cain and Able. So what happened next? How did Cain go on to populate the world on his own? Did Adam and Eve have more children after Cain and Able? And did Cain shack up with one of his sisters? Bible students, heres you chance to answer a question.

Thank you for all the great answers! Terrific story. So the gene pool was more 'pure' back then, was it? Or was just more 'limited'! Incest then was ok back then? Why do shared genes produce deformaties etc. now but not then. Another miracle? Did god change his mind later about incest, allowing it then, but not now ! Were genes 'different' then? Did god indulge in a bit of GM? Come on people! Get real! Nice story, but it's too full of holes. Too many details conveniently 'missing'!

Max_Powers, yes, I did read all the answers through. It seems to me from your comments that god was pretty heavily involved in genes! And you apparently believe in mutation! Wow! But then I guess you believe that god drives mutation, do you? So if you believe in mutation, how do you stand with evolution? After all, mutation causes organisms to evolve! Do you believe organisms, including ourselves, evolve?
If you do, then god didn't create things as they are now, did he? But then we have Adam and Eve! They were exactly like us, right? So there is such a thing as evolution, right? But it didn't apply to mankind, right! Gimme a break! You cannot reconcile your 'Adam & Eve' god with what we know now to be scientific fact. You are attempting to have your cake, AND eat it! But hey, wha the hell! Whatever turns you on!

No more answers thanks. My conclusion is as before. People will dredge up ANYTHING to support their belief. Like non-believers are looking at the question from todays point of view. You want me to think like a 2 or 3000 year old person! What other pont of view can I have but todays? The phrase 'Carl Sagan very cleverly....' Of course very cleverly, what else? You expect him to 'not so cleverly' use your viewpoints' Genesis is an OLD story, a marvellous story! But a story. You might as well believe what L. Ron Hubbard wrote! Lots of people do. Ultimately, there is no difference. Christian, or Christian Scientologist!

Genesis 5:4 says, "Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters."

Yes Cain did "shack" up with one of his sisters. The genetic lineage of Adam and Eve was perfect so marrying a sister wasn't going to cause birth defects. It wasn't until much later, during the time of Moses, that incest was forbidden as the genetic pool became more polluted. The reason 2 siblings will produce a freak now days is that humans have all sorts of physical flaws, siblings usually share the same flaws or disorders. The resulting child will have every single flaw, that may have been otherwise dominated by a non similar set of genes.

The Bible says that Adam and Eve had a few children including daughters and they were blessed with another son Seth after Able was killed. Also when Cain was sent to wander he found another "village" to live so there had to be quite a few decendants already poplulating the Earth. My Bible professors always agreed that there would have had to have been some inter-marrying. But think about it people lived to be almost a 1,000 years old, so after the first few children intermarried there would have been plenty of third and fourth cousins and so on. Some believe as well though that Adam and Eve were not the only individuals that God created, but I don't believe that. Scripture only mentions Adam abd Eve. They were to "subdue" the Earth and "be fruitfull and multiply." So I guess you can say they did just that. If you want more answers read the first 10 chapters of Genesis that could answer a lot for you. Especially about Adam and Eve's offspring.

Did you actually read any of the answers, or was this just a poor attempt to poke a non-existent hole in Christian doctrine?

It seems that you may be confused as to how inherited genes work. As someone stated earlier, incest amongst earlier humans would not result in deformities due to the fact that Adam and Eve were genetically perfect. What serious flaws or deformities could have been passed on? Genetic similarity is only negative when "bad" genes produce offspring with similar "bad" genes. Today humans are carrying all sorts of "bad" genes, as a result of mutations over the years. If you have the gene for a disorder, or physical deformity, your siblings most likely have the exact same genes for that disorder or deformity. (Crooked nose, anemia, poor eyesight etc.)The resulting child will more than likely inherit every last deformity/disorder. It is possible they will not, but the odds are strongly against it. Wondering why humans are not still perfect like they were? Imagine making a copy of a copy and so on, with a xerox machine. 100 or so copies later, it will resemble the original, but look much different. Each copy will lose a bit more information.

Cain, after killing Able, was sentenced to banishment by God from the ground, evidently meaning his eviction from the neighborhood of the garden of Eden . God set up a sign for Cain to prevent his being killed but the record does not say that this sign or mark was placed on Cain's body in any way. (Genesis 4:10-15) Cain took with him his wife, an anonymous daughter of Adam and Eve. (Gen. 4:16,17) Following the birth of his son, Enoch, Cain engaged in building a city naming it for his son.
Adam and Eve did have other children, some are specifically mentioned, such as Seth. Genesis 5:4 says that Adam and Eve had sons and daughters some who may have been born before Seth. Seth is worthy of note because Noah, and through him the present-day race of mankind, descended from him, not from the murderous Cain. At the age of 105 years, Seth became father to Enosh and died at the age of 912 years. (Genesis 4:17, 25, 26) (Genesis 5:3-8) (1 Chronicles 1:1-4; Luke 3:38)

According to the Hebrew Bible and the Qur'an, Cain and Abel were the first and, possibly, second sons of Adam and Eve, born after the Fall of Man (the only other child of Adam and Eve to be named in the Bible was Seth). Their story is told in the Hebrew Bible at Genesis 4 and in the Qur'an at 5:27-32. In both versions Cain commits the first murder by killing his brother after God rejects his sacrifice but accepts Abel's. Genesis puts some emphasis on the occupations of the brothers; Abel tends flocks while Cain is a farmer.

Well Cain was the first murder story and adam lived a pretty long time, so there was alot of time that happen between the time adam and eve sinned and the time Cain killed his brother, besides if you read the bible on the story of cain, it says that cain complains that "They" will come after him, and who are they??? He does not say his parents, which is what you would think if Cain came after adam and eve got kicked out of the garden of eden, so it must be others, maybe bro's that would come after him.

Adam and Eve had at least one other son, Seth. They must also have had daughters. The brother-sister incest taboo came much later in biblical history.
