How does American Idle work? I mean like 10,000 people audition but theres no way the juges see all of them is there? that would take weeks.

Only a few are shown in front of the 3 tv judges, usually the most interesting to screen on tv the rest are judged by others and passed on if their act is appealing to watch even if they are crap.

There are several rounds before they get to see the main 3 judges. It takes a lot to make it to tv. Personally, I think they pick a certain % of the best and a certain % of the worst for entertainment value. I would like it better if they only let the really good ones through.You'll notice the numbers are not always consecutive when sitting in the chair waiting their turn.

Well... not all of them see the judges. Like the other people said, they go through three rounds before actually seeing the real judges. And it takes two days for each city.

They pick whomever fits the formula of pop crap they push and then give them a contract before its even over. Usually you need to be a goodlooking teen girl. Sometimes the public interferes and chooses someone they think is cute or friendly or the kind of guy they want to have over for dinner. Dont mistake any of it for talent.

they go to select citys and start at about 9 or 10 and stay in the same city for 2 days

They go through a pre-process with different judges...the reason you see so many horrible people going through to Simon & Co is for entertainment value only.

One of my friends went and tried out. Their were pre trials where other judges watched the contestents. You either had to be terrible and catchy at the same time or you had to be phenominal!

I'm pretty sure they go through initial screening and then several are picked out of those to actually go in front of Paula, Randy and Simon.

As I understand it, there are two or three elimination rounds BEFORE Randy, Simon, and Paula see the contestants.
