I will be relocating to Rhode Island this summer and I would like to know if any one has any input on the Newport/North Kingstown area. I live in Colorado right now and this weather drives me CRAZY!! After 30 years it is time for me to move on.
If anyone has any input on schools, places to find work, areas of town that are reasonable in rent, but still nice to live in, I would greatly appreciate it!!
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

You have come to the right place. I moved from the midwest out here about 4 years ago. Newport/North Kingstown area is the place I recommend most. Specifically South Kingstown. Excellent schools (I have three kids enrolled) Beaches are just a few miles away, and a strong community atmosphere. As far as jobs are concerned, Providence is only 35 minutes.
Having lived here for 4 years and learned a bit about the neighborhoods, If I had to choose all over again, it would definately be South County. Narragansett, Wakefield, Peace Dale.

The housing market has been slow out here, so you should have a lot to choose from. I know a great realtor in the community...www.krekorian.com look at a few houses he lists and you'll get a sense of the market.

The winters are mild. Our first snowfall was last week. We are experiencing a cold snap right now, but nothing like what you are experiencing. Most of the winter, I can get away with a vest.

Ohh, I almost forgot. You'll love the food out here...tons of sushi and fresh seafood. Lots of healthy people in this community. In the summer, Narragansett looks like the California coast, roller bladers, sun bathers, dog walkers, joggers....it's quite a sight!

The community does swell up in the summer. Lots of tourists, but in the fall and spring, it is such a beautiful and subtle place to live. Wish I knew more specifically what you were looking for ie..moms club, book groups, running club...we've got all of them!

Good Luck!

ps URI is in South County. Airport is in Warwick, about 20-25 mintues north
