Um....are you equating him asking you out with a gift? Because usually a guy thinks a girl saying yes is good enough. But if you really feel you need to get him something, then maybe a gift certificate to your local music store. Or a dvd on karate.

maybe you should wait before giving him something.see if you can find some karate tournament,or a concert of a band he likes then get tickets for the two of you .i think when a gift comes from the heart it means more then one given by because you feel u have too. and he will appreciate the thought more .good luck

Some guys traditionally bring a bouquet of garden flowers on a first date. As far as I know, it's not necessary to give a gift to him also. But if you are that uncomfortable with it, you could get him a cool tee-shirt (or other small article of clothing).

why do you think he's going to give you a gift on your first date
however be prepared just in case
if he does then have a cd of your favorate music ready to give to him
it will tell him what you like and also that you've thought about him

i think that you just need to learn loosen up and just except gift and not have to give something back because you could get into a cycle were he gets you something then you give him something then he gives you something then you give him something and so on and so on and so on and so on. you see what i mean.
even if that doesn't happen then you could still just save your-self alot of money if you just don't have to give them something back EVERYTIME.sometimes it is appropriate but most times it's NOT important that you give them something.
you might just offend them if you HAVE to give them something EVERYTIME.
so just loosen up and enjoy the gifts from your friends.
also you can just give them presents like they give you.
also you can talk to your boyfriend and friends and admit that you have a problem with having to give back and have them help you through it. or
you could give a small amount of money to charity or put it in to a special account and then spend it on them later.(thats what i do now.the gifts are better anyway, and if you need money cause you get in a jam you can use some of that money also.
Hope My Advice Helped You In Even A Small Way,It's The Best I Can Do.Enjoy The Gifts They Give You.Just Be Productive With The Money That You Might Have Spent On Them.

You could tell him that you would take him out to dinner or somewhere(movies, resturaunt etc.) and tell him you'll pay. I did that for a few people 4 their b-day!
good luckkkk!

Learn to accept gifts graciously. IF he does give you something tell him thank you and leave it at that.
