Yes we do live in a Democracy. I'm not going to explain it to you. You should do some research and find out what the rights of the Commander in Chief are and don't just base your ideas off of opinions that people on here have. But to tell you some truth. Once Congress authorizes the president to wage war, then he is the Decider, congress can't take that vote back. Congress only has control over the purse. The president can send as many troops as he feels is necessary as long as it is for the war congress approved of. Since this surge is part of a war that was approved by congress, he is well within the boundaries as Commander in Chief to do so. Now if he wanted to send troops into Iran, then Congress would have control over whether or not he can.

Constitution declares the president to be the Commander-in-Chief. Although Congress can vote to declare war, the Commander-in-Chief mobilizes the troops because he is in essence the highest ranking general.
Oh, and we're a republic, not a democracy.

It's a long story - but it boils down to this. The chickensheit congress abdicated it's constitutional responsibility long ago to be the only branch that can decide to send troops to war. They gave it up to the executive and since then presidents have jealously guarded the power. It's all screwed up, but it can be taken back to congress with a supreme court case - but that has yet to happen. Maybe soon.

because he, not the public or the government, is the commander-in-chief of our military. he gets his information straight from the men leading the fight on the ground, and makes his decisions based on what they say they need. they obviously say they need more troops over there. not everything requires your okay, even in a democracy. be glad there are enough soldiers volunteering that you don't have to go.

No we live in a democratic Republic, which means we send representatives to make decisions for us. They gave Bush the right to invade Iraq. End of story, he is the commander in chief!

Fortunately, Commander's in Chief don't run wars by 'democracy'. Besides, the UN Iraq investigation team that liberals screamed for recommends it.

Because he is the commander in chief. And when you say "majority" do you mean the Senate and the House?? Or do you mean the majority of americans?? Because if you mean the latter, I am not sure you are right on that.
