I wish I could have met Ahmed Shah Massoud, who was the leader of the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan that fought against Osama Bin-Laden and the Taliban for many years.
He was an educated, articulate patriot that longed to see Afghanistan become a progressive, modernized nation with allegiances to countries in the west. He was a great leader, but also very compassionate and a family man who fought for his people and against the oppression of radical Islam.
Sadly, he was assasinated by the Taliban the day before the attack on America on September 11th, 2001. I wish I could have met him, and might even have fought for him.
