My friend and I never have anything to talk about in lunch. We're both shy and there's always and awkward silence. How do I start a conversation with her? About anything!

we went to school together for a while, but i transferred. now we're at the same high school and we haven't seen each other for a while.

Obviously you have access to a computer so...ask her if she does, and start a conversation on the sites you visit. Unless you live in an Amish community, I would assume you and she have TVs so talk about what you watched and she can tell you what she watched. If you have never seen the shows talk about why you like them and you/she may realize you're missing out on a good show. Even though I'm a guy I know it never hurts to whisper "quietly" about the cute guys and who you would love to go to the prom with.

Its only awkward if you think it is! Just look around you for ideas. Give her a compliment on something she's wearing, then ask where she got it, if she just gives onel ine answers, just talk about the store she got it at or something. I think the main idea for people to become less shy around eachother is to engage eachother, not just have one person talking. Good luck!

Try something relevant to both of you, ask for help on a subject at school, like chemistry, calculus or any subject difficult to you. From then just keep going, ask her how her day is going. You'll see how easy it is too just prattle on and on in no time

during an akward silence, suddenly just laugh out loud. im serious. Laugh out low in the middle of knowhere, completely random, looking like a total wacko. i dont know why it works, but for some reason it does. i dont get it

do what all girls do, talk crap about other girls, say something like "look at becky's pants they're so 2 months ago!! or OH MY GOD Jennifer needs to get a pedicure because her nails are sharp and her toes are crusty!!" of course all in a valley girl cheer leader tone of voice
