Is it weird to name your child the same thing as one of your parents? My mom's name is Sarah and my husband and I have decided on Sarah Elizabeth if we have a girl - "Sarah Beth" possibly. I love the name and love the idea of naming a baby after my mom, who is the greatest woman I have ever known... but is it weird? I mean if she gets called "Sarah" and my mom is still called "Sarah" (to the kids, she's 'granny', I mean by other adults), is it too weird?

I think its nice to tribute your mom . She lives in a different house anyway and i doubt many people will call your mom by name enough to be confusing. She will be granny as far as your daughter is concerned and she is the only one who may be otherwise confused.
Its a beautiful name by the way
Congratulations

Not at all. Sarah Beth is a gorgeous name and how often will they be together and getting called the same thing anyway. Your mom will be 'Mom' or Granny, as you say.
There are plenty of people who name their kids after themselves too like Sarah Jnr.
I think go for it, your mom would be so proud also.

I don't think it is weird at all. I think that it is a good way to honor a parent that you love & cherish. I dont think that I would call her Sarah if that is what your mom still is called. Maybe call her something like Sarah Beth, Ellie, Eliza, Libbi...something to distinguish her from her Granny, so she doesnt feel like she is growing up in her shadow or something.

I think it is a beautiful gesture, so much so I did it too. My daughter is Katherine, I am Katherine, my mom is Katherine.... to lessen confusion we just use different variations. Mom is Katherine, I am Kathy, my daughter is Kitty (and that still leaves her with Kate if she outgrows the name Kitty).
You can call you daughter Sarah Beth if you think there will be confusion, but really I have never had a problem.

I don't think it's weird at all. I think it would be a nice gesture and your mom would be so happy and flattered. It sounds like you have a wonderful mom which gives you even more reason to do so!!! and more importantly Sara Elizabeth is a very pretty name. Your daughter would always be able to tell people she was named after her grandmother:)

I don't think it is weird at all. My name is Nancy and my grandmother's name is Nancy. Sarah is a pretty name, and it is a nice tribute to your mom.
Funny thing, not only do my grandmother and I have the same name, but my husband has the same name as my grandfather.

Sara Beth don't call her that. It makes me think of the song where the little girl has cancer and goes through chemo and loses her hair.Sara Elizabeth is cute. My daughter's middle name as well as my mom's is Elizabeth . It is an awesome tribute.
