I think you did not over react. It is only normal to be concerned about your baby. After all, you are the mother and your decisions and instinct are always right.
But it is not good to offend your sister like this, unless she trys to interfer in your parenting techniques often.
Try to calmly tell your sister that while you appreciate when she offers to help babysit and her inputs on parenting, you feel that you are just too ovewhelmed with all the advice flowing in. And you are just going to follow your own instinct.
Remember to NOT sound accusatory, your sister probaly did have her best intentions in mind. but IF after all this, she is still convinced that you are over reacting and refuses to back off, then it is time to firmly (but not offensively) remind her that you and alone you (maybe except for the baby's father) are the people responsible for the baby, and she cannot just feed your child anything without your consent.
If she STILL does not understand, it is time to let it go and realize in peace that she is the one that is wrong and you are just doing your duty as a parent.
Hope that helped.

You were completly right as you know nyquill should not be given to baby at all much less that young! But even if someone did a teapson of nyquill would be way to much!! I would hestiate to give that to my five year old if I had nothing else in the house. I think the fact that your sister has her own kids is even more of reason to show her the door. A. she should know better. B she is more likley to take matters into her own hands and do what she thinks is right since she has kids of her own. You should find a new sitter and believe it or not ones with out kids often do just as good of job.

YES you are right is very dangerious to give any child under two cough and cold medications and you DEFINATELY should NEVER give a child a medication that is not intended for someone there age/weight. Babies have died from incorrect doseages of baby medications so make sure you are careful about that too and only use the dropper or spoon that is suplied with the medication. If she can not respect that you are the mother of your child and you make the decisions she should never be left alone with your baby again.

Okay your sister was out of her mind for doing that! I can't believe your sister actually has 4 kids of her own. No way do I think you over-reacted she could have killed the baby. If she's mad let her be mad but you know what you would of really been pissed off at her if your baby would of ended up in the hospital or dead. She'll get over it. My mother always used to use this saying. "God takes care of babies and FOOLS"

HECK YES YOU WERE RIGHT!!! What in the world was she thinking... nyquil has alcohol in it... and for a 6 week old child to get that in her system is horrible. Her stomach is not going to be able to process that. WOW! I'm glad you caught her in time b/c that would have been horrible. If i were you i would not leave your child in her care again.... no matter if she is your sister or not and no matter that she has 4 kids. I would hate to know what she gave her children. why in the world was she giving her nyquil anyways???? You are right and no you did not overreact... so please don't think you did and don't make her think you did. Just b/c her 4 kids are fine and healthy doesn't make her the best mom ever... she has to know that, that was wrong to do. wow... goodluck and you were so right

well i dont know the effects on nightquill with infants, but i do know that if someone i left in charge my child (whether family, friend, or responsible teenager down the street) was going to give my child a medicine that i didnt authorize, i would throw a fit and depending on exactly what it was and all, and possibly (especially if they already gave it to them) take legal actions. if she has 4 kids of her own, i dont know how she cant know what medicines to give an infant. u didnt overreact, i wouldnt let her babysit again either.

You were totally right.
Regardless of the fact that your sister has 4 kids of her own, she should never have even considered giving your baby any medicine. The only people who should give a child medicine is the child's parents. And even when it is the parents, you should always write down what was given and when so that the other parents doesn't accidentally give the child another dose too soon.

You are TOTALLY NOT overreacting!! Your sister is WAY out of line! First of all, over the counter medications should NEVER be given to a child under one year old without a doctor's direction. (I seriously doubt your 20 year old sister had time to go to medical school while raising 4 kids.) Secondly, if you give medication to a child, you DO NOT give the adult formulation, you give the infant or child's formuation.
Tell your sister to get over herself and not touch your kid.

you did not overreact look at ti this way what would have happened if you didn't know and the baby got really sick or worse or if you ended up at the hospital and they would do tests to see what was wrong you probably would have lost your little darling for good or a least a long while facts would not be impressed whether you gave it to the baby or not you are ultimatly responsible be mad and make sure she knows how much damage she could have caused

Nope!!!! Did your sister not hear about the case in the news awhile back....to summarize a daycare provider was giving children in her care medicine, (i cant remember what now) to make them sleep so she could go on about her business and one of the children died. It is NEVER ok to give a child (anyones!) medicine unless they need it, you know the correct dose for age ect.!! You did the right thing. Never leave your baby with her again.

You were right to get mad at her because she did not know what she was doing. The only person that should be allowed to say whether to give an infant adult medicine or the children's nyquil would be a doctor.
