Hellenistic as opposed to Hellenic? Several parrallels. Hellenistic refers to cultures conqured by Greece, by Alexander the Great, and were a mixture of homoginized Greek culture and the pre existing culture of the conquered people. America, being reffered to as a "melting pot" is similar in many ways. We all have the similar American roots, but each bring cultural experincies from our countries of origin. We are united under the constitution, theoretically, but all hold personal beliefs that differ based on our upbringing, which could be rooted in the cultural beliefs of our forbears. Hellenic refers to specific Greek culture, culture that was well founded and traditional. America is not old enough or one-cultured enoughed to be considered pure, its more diverse, and therefore similar to hellenistic. A rambling and convoluted explanation to be sure, but I hope that helps.
