Very few people have ever actually bothered to read "The Constitution of the United States of America". Two reasons for that; 1, They cannot be bothered , and; 2, just about everything You will ever need to know is to be found at tha part at the front called "The PREAMBLE". Shorter than the Gettysburg Address, more comprehensible than "The Star Spangled Banner", and less likely to create controversy than "The Oath of Allegiance". Rather a pity people are not interested enough in Their Nation's History and Political beginnings to actually read the thing. Go ask a 'Librarian' for a copy and educate Yourself.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for (the preamble that someone posted here is probably what you're looking for), but one purpose of The Constitution is to limit the power of the government and assure that it is left with the citizens and with the individual states.
It set up some basic principles with which all laws are supposed to comply.
With the limiting over power is also the guarantees of certain freedoms and protections. The right to due process is one. Freedom of religion and freedom of speech are others. Freedom of assembly is another.
There is also the establilshment of the the three branches of government, so that no one branch has too much.

Trying saying the pledge of allegiance.
One nation... (1) indivisible, with (2) liberty and (3) justice for all. Those are the goals of the constitution.
