It's a quote by Antoine De Saint Exupery in The Little Prince
we must face the fact that the love and the moments spent with others embellish our lives and make us human. The beauty of friendship is that it makes us always smile and keep our hearts warm and prepared while waiting dear friends. But one shouldn’t expect anything in return and should be prepaired for downfalls, disillusions and sacrifices also

Right off the bat I'm thinking that the alternative to that, such as not being tamed, a person can laugh off what other people think and be wild and be 'their own person'. However, if they allow themselves to be 'tamed' and care about someone else, then with caring, they run the risk of loss.

It's from the "Little Prince" isn't it? The point is that when we make friends, and love someone, we risk losses, disappointments, separations and frustrations because they will not live up to all our expectations, satisfy our desires, or last in our lives for ever.

But of course we also gain so much in connection that we cannot fulfil if we refuse to be "tamed", if we remain ata "safe" distance.

I think it's in reference to a love relationship where one can be tamed by someone and it can cause difficulties in terms of heart aches and arguments. "Tamed" probably to emphasize the difference between being in control and having no choice, just like love where its difficult to ignore and make decisions.

How beautiful... how true. I have always found that I get less hurt in life if I follow a friend's maxim (which I believe to be translated from Native American)... "Love all, trust a few, always paddle your own canoe".

I guess that you risk getting your fingers burned if you stray to close to the flame... but fire can be very enticing, can't it?

well to me it means that we are strong, but if we get tamed, we will be weak.(and cry)
