because we are so sad inside that we actually feel better when we spend money.
it's sad because most of the people who own corporations that cause pollution and polititions that cause aggression between neighbors consider themselves to be religious - so, for the rest of society, i guess it kind of works like trickle down economics. call it trickle down morals.
it doesn't have to be that way. at least some of us can still remember to ask why. : )

Perhaps because human nature is the same everywhere yet inequalities arises due to different abilities and situations and many people are simply jealous because they do not have the money and label Americans as greedy
Observe their life and you might be surprised that they too like good things just as much!
