Illinois, Arizona, Louisville, Purdue, Pitt are the choices. I am majoring in Mech. engineering so I was wondering which everyone feels is the best for the price. I live in Louisville, KY and I recieved a $40,000 scholarship to Arizona.

I also have a scholarship to Louisville Speed School.

If Arizona has a good mechanical engineering program, don't throw that scholarship out the door by going somewhere else. College is expensive, and by the time you graduate, it's going to be even more expensive. If a good school gives you a good scholarship, even though there's perhaps another school out there that's a little better in that field, you have to think really hard before you give the scholarship up. Especially think about your debt after school. With that scholarship, you'll pay off your student loans faster than if you go to a school without such a substantial scholarship. But if Arizona doesn't have a good program, you may be the best choice to go somewhere else. Basically, just research the programs at those schools and see if any of them can justify you giving up that 40K.

Illionois or Arizona (given the scholariship) are both excellent choices. I have not been impressed with mechanical engineering Purdue grads.

Visit as many places as you can and check out their facilities. You will get a good feel for the quality of the school. It is worth it to go to the best school you can afford and one that has a big network of alumni. If you think you eventually want to live in the western part of the country after you're done with college, Arizona would be the best option.

well it's hard to turn down a 40k scholarship. that aside, employers outside of the Big Ten are very impressed by a Purdue degree in anything as many believe Purdue to be an IVY league school. Moreover, Purdue's engineering programs are well known and highly respected. Finally, the most beautiful girls in the world are found in West Lafayette, IN. The hottest of babes go to Purdue. The "Breakfeast Club" convenes each semester and the madness begins at 6am. Everyone is drunk by 8am. The county jail in Tippecanoe county opened in 1991 and is very nice. many TVs, ping-pong, outside bb court, fitness center, library, etc. You can have a CD player (although you do have to buy it at the jail for $35.00). There's a cool fountain in the center of the quad, and, despite it's reputation as a conservative republican enclave, it is actually very, very permissive. The engineering building has regular false fire alarms before nearly every test. The psychiatric hospital there, where many students live for at least a few days, is called Wabash Valley Hospital, and u can have ice cream 24/7. Purdue is a good bet.

"Best place for the price" criteria has to include in its formula how much do its graduates in Mech Engineering receive at the entry level upon graduation; therefore before you pick, call and talk with the Placement Office at the respective universities and obtain their statistics as to the above factor.
And get their information re: what % of mech engi students are placed each year, what companies actively come to the college of engineering each year interviewing graduating sr's.

I don't know about the others, but 40K will take you a long way at ASU. Tuition is among the lowest in the nation. Aside from that, it's a good school but it has a reputation as a party school. They are trying to get away from that image by cracking down on things... but it still is.

Did you receive a scholarship anywhere else? I'd go to Arizona if not.

How can you turn down a free ride? 40 k is nice! not having student loans hanging over your head will be alot better than the venue of schooling.
