I am entering a pageant. It is the kind for married women and it is based on beauty, poise, community service, and personality. Would you consider this type of pageant to be for vanity or do you support pageant systems of this type?

Don't listen to people here. They are so rude. Just like you said, it is based on POISE, COMMUNITY SERVICE, AND PERSONALITY. The beauty portion is how confident you are and you're posture. If you notice all the winners have good posture. This is the best kind of pageant. This isn't a glitz pageant. There is a big difference between glitz and non-glitz. In my opinion you should do the pageant.

If all pageants focused on intelligent, talent, personality, achievement, humour and the niceties of people, I would encourage anyone to participate.

Unfortunately, living in a society where image seems to be the essential element, physical looks and appearance will always come out on top. That this is taught to young pageant participants from such a young age (anywhere from two), what messages are we really sending and it is surely no wonder that too many females have issues and a complex about their own bodies, how society perceives them, what they think they need to do to succeed in life.

Maybe in another lifetime, this screwy attitude will not exist!

I wish you alot of fun with your pageant, enjoy the people and the experience.

The only real opinion that matters here is yours and your families. If you feel it is wrong for you to do this then don't do it.
A pageant may be a way for you to build up self confidence and maybe earn prizes. There is nothing wrong with that. I would check with your husband and make sure he is comfortable with you entering.
Good Luck

well I think it makes people act fake and feel their only worth is in how they look. That and you shouldn't compare yourself to others
