hi, i am planning on making a home business and ive gone through every little detail, but i seem to have ran onto a wall. i need a software that i may use with my own personal website that will calculate shipping costs automatically from items purchased by my customers. i need a good program, reason being is because if i do my own calculations and get it wrong and end up charging to little for shipping&processing i myself will lose profit and i dont even wanna think about over charging the costumers...i wanna make it fair for both me and my customers which is the reason why i need a good software. all opinions will be greatly appreciated ^_^

Hi Luis,

I run my own successful online businesses the same way in which you're striving to run yours...

First of all, if you're taking orders from your own website, then you'll need a shopping cart that can actually process/calculate what's called "Real-time Shipping" calculations.

These real-time calculations are available via: FedEx, UPS, United States Postal Service, DHL and Canada Post.

But, in order to calculate real-time shipping you MUST have the actual product weight for each and every product you plan to sell. Once you have the weights, just set up an account with the shipper of your choice (FedEx, UPS, etc.), program the weights for each product as well as their ship from address, and you're pretty much set.

FedEx and the like will give you an account number as well as a "meter" number.

Please note: If you're using a drop-shipper to ship FOR YOU, then you'll want to use THEIR address (especially their zip code) as your "ship-from" address when you set up your shipping account.

For example, if your shipper's zip code is 123456, then you'll want your shipping account set up with that ship-from zip code, so that your real-time shipping calculations are percise.

FedEx, UPS and the rest calculate their shipping rates/costs by certain geographical "quadrants". So having the correct ship-from address/zip code is extremely important.

Shopping cart software that will calculate real-time shipping costs for you can be found at: http://1shippingcart.com

Anyway, I wish you the very best of luck!

Take care.

What you could do is use EBAY.com They give you a web page with your product photo on it and it calculates the shipping from there. So let's say you are selling a bottle of perfume. It will automatically figure out the shipping.

Also you can contact ups or fedex or the uspost office and they'll help you with that free.

Have you tried USPS.com? It is a post office online.
