I am in the process of cleaning things out and there are books that I still care for yet do not wish to have them on my bookshelf. Is there a safe way to store books? Would bubblewrapping each book help?

I had a number of books stored in ziplock plastic bags that, unfortunately, were destroyed when a drain in my basement backed up. Just consider what types of natural disasters they could face as well.

They were in large plastic boxes that floated and then fell over. Heartbreaking.

You might also want to keep a record somewhere of what books you have stored where. Then again, this might not be an issue for you, but my memory's not so good... :)

After some long years of buying, reading and storing books, I've encountered at least a problem regarding invisible dust that silently keeps infiltrating on the top of the books we normally put them upright. Therefore, I place them flatly, one by one making up a pile of ten or fifteen books, on my large desk and the shelves by me. It's a way to avoid the dust and easier for me to search titles and authors on the spines.

Definitely put in some type of material for keeping humidity at a bare minimum.

Also, store books in the upright position. Laying them down makes them tend to sag downward.

I have books like that. I keep them in food storage bags with the zip lock seal so nothing can get on them....air or otherwise
