Emo has multiple meanings, but the one in common usage today refers to a state of mind (emotional, depressed) and a group of people. Emos are now considered a school caste, like jocks and preps. Emos tend to dress in the gloomy, goth style, spend time alone, and have a suicidal mindset. It has also been said that emos wear wristbands and long sleeves all the time because they cut themselves and want to hide the cuts. There aren't many true emos around, but the term is used quite a lot.

The term "emo" is a genre of music that stands for "Emotive." Though, people today have the false impression that the word emo means "emotional" and/or that it is a type of person and how they act/dress etc.

Don't be ignortant. Remember, emo = emotive music.
