Most people will benefit from trying all of the supplements that are recommended in the list below; they can be safely combined. It often takes three to four weeks, or longer, to notice results. All can be used long term, as well as with conventional acne medications.

Vitamin A
Dosage: 25,000 IU a day; reduce dose to 10,000 IU a day when healing is noticed or after 1 month. Use pills or drops.
Comments: Women who are pregnant or considering pregnancy should not exceed 5,000 IU a day high doses can cause birth defects.

Vitamin B6
Dosage: 50 mg each morning.
Comments: Long-term doses of more than 200 mg a day for chronic acne can cause nerve damage.

Vitamin C
Dosage: 1,000 mg twice a day.
Comments: Reduce dose if diarrhea develops.

Zinc/Copper
Dosage: 30 mg zinc and 2 mg copper a day.
Comments: Add copper only when using zinc longer than 1 month.

Flaxseed Oil
Dosage: 1 tbsp. (14 grams) a day. Comments: Can be mixed with food; take in the morning.

Evening Primrose Oil
Dosage: 1,000 mg 3 times a day.
Comments: Can substitute 1,000 mg borage oil once a day.

What else you can do -
Wash daily, using ordinary soap and water.
Eat a balanced diet; avoid foods you feel may act as acne triggers.
Choose cosmetics labeled "noncomedogenic" or "oil-free."
Avoid picking pimples; it increases inflammation and can cause scarring.
Use a 5% solution of topical tea tree oil to dry up mild acne blemishes. Higher dosages, containing up to 15% tea tree oil, may be helpful for more severe cases of acne.
Don't hold the receiver of a telephone too tightly against your skin, which can cause acne to break out above your ear or along the side of your chin.

Avoid commercial skin products completely. These only serve to block your pores so that they can't breathe at all. The lotion or soap itself may feel soothing, but it is doing serious damage in the process.

Get some pine tar soap in either bar or liquid form and wash the affected areas with this. Rinse with a solution of 50% apple cider vinegar and 50% warm water. Pat dry rather than rubbing. Additionally, ingest at least a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar every day. You can add it to your apple juice or a glass of water or make a kind of tea with it by adding it to a cup of steaming water or have a salad with apple cider vinegar and oil as the dressing. This will help work on the problem from the inside while you are working on the problem on the surface.

Pine tar soap is a specialty item that might not be readily available in most stores. The best place to find it is on ebay. Just type in the key words "pine tar soap" and you will find it readily available by home soap makers. There is a business that caters to primarily back-to-the-land types and the Amish communities called Lehmans. The link to pine tar soap is included below.

Pine tar soap is an effective cleanser for all types of skin problems including acne, psoriasis, eczema, itches, rashes and even diaper rash on babies.

Keep the area clean and always wear clean clothing. Neutrogena, Oxy, Phisoderm, Zapzyt, and possibly some other brands make bodywash formulated for acne treatment containing salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. A company called Nature's Cure offers a 2-part system consisting of a body spray with salicylic acid, and a daily oral tablet with a combination of homeopathic ingredients. Drinking more water can help clear up your skin in general. You can find these at the drugstore, Target, or online at drugstore.com. You can also apply acne treatment creams that you use on your face, if you can reach the area on your back or don't mind having someone else do it for you. If these OTC treatments don't work, you can consult a dermatologist for prescription medication that will treat your body and face.

When I was pregnant with my son I got bacne, I tried neutrogena's body wash specifically for that. Also, if that doesn't work you should make an appointment to see a dermatologist.
