I agree completely with babydancingnlovinit. One easy way to remember how your cervix should feel during ovulation is this SHOW--Soft, High, Open, Wet.

It takes a few months to really get to know your cervix positions, what it usually feels like and what it feels like when you are ovulating. So I would suggest also using an ovulation predictor kit the first month you start tracking cervix position. But here is what you are looking for:
First of all you want to be in the same position every time you check your cervix. For me, sitting on the toilet works best. Also make sure you fingers are clean before checking, you don't want to introduce any bacteria. Then you want to stick one or two fingers inside and feel for a knob type thing that sticks out in the back of your vagina, this is your cervix.
When you are not ovulating, your cervix will be positioned low (you won't have to reach very far with your fingers to find it) it will also feel firm, like the tip of your nose.
When you are ovulating, your cervix will be positioned high (it will be difficult to reach) and it will feel soft like your lips, and slightly open.
I hope this helps!! Good Luck!

If you want to check your cervix, make sure your hands are clean. You cannot use a mirror b/c your cervix is INSIDE your body! You would have to be familiar with how your cervix normally feels. When your body is fertile, the cervix will show a subtle change. It will open a bit, move position a bit, be a bit softer (feels like from the tip of your nose (harder) to the softness of you lip).
Other ways to check fertility is to check for stretchy egg-white mucus. That means you are fertile.
I've seen ovulation kits at the dollar store.
Good luck!

Your cervix changes it's position and rigidness depending on where you are in your cycle. I used this method along with checking mucus and basal body temperatures. I overplanned my pregnancies I know, but I conceived on the first month all three times.
Search the internet for cervical changes and ovulation, you should be able to find very reliable information.
