how do you know it's a ghost?

Ghosts don't appear to people specificly. They are always there, and some people have what my family calls "a sixth sense." Some people can sense when they're there, see them, hear them. If you want to contact the person, next time, if there is a next time you see him, try talking to him, and watch what he does, his body language, and maybe you may be able to see him but not hear him, so watch his lips to see if he is trying to speak to you. You may also try a Ouija board. Be careful though, because this may be a kind spirit or a "mean ghost". There are also certain levels as to how strong your sixth sense is. My sister can sense them in any room at any time, and understand the vibes they are sending off, what they want and all. Also, she can sense *how many*. Do not be surprised if you get onto that Ouija board, and have more then one person speaking to you or the group through you. In my living room once, we sensed over 16 with us in the room, and about another dozen in the kitchen/dining room. I however, can only sense them sometimes, though I see them frequently. Don't be afraid of them; they can't hurt you. They sometimes only want to scare you.

Sometimes ghosts appear to people based on the place that you are. The spirit might remember this place and wants to go back. Maybe you were someplace that a spirit remembers, and even though you don't know them, they remember the place where you are.

I believe he appeared to you because his energy is similar to yours or you are more sensitive to his energy.
