can the baby hear what's going on. like if mommy and daddy talk to him/her, can they hear us (then they'd understand who we are when born)? is it also true that classical music is good for them, and it makes them smarter? last question is that if the mother is stressed or gets scared, can the baby feel how the mother is feeling??

thanks =]

From my pesonal experience, yes the baby can hear you. I imagine it is a muffled sound but they can definately hear you. When I went back to work after I had my first child, I would call home on my breaks. If the baby was being fussy my mom would put the phone on speaker and I would talk to her. It seemed to help soothe her. Also, I began reading to my kids whike they were still in utero, and they have an insationable thirst for books. We are constantly having to go to the library. I have heard the classical rumor go both ways, so I can't really help you there. The stress issue...YES! It is important for you to keep your stress level down, not only to promote a healthy pregnancy but to aide in preventing problems during child birth. When you are stress the baby produces miconium (the baby poops) in the amniotic fluid. At birth if the baby breathes this into his/her lungs it can make them sick. Hope this helps.

the baby can hear voices being echoed from the stomache to him so by the time he/she's born he will recognize the mother's voice N fathers voice. It's true classic music helps but hasn't been a proven fact that they are more or less smarter if they listen or not. When you are stressed- this is really bad for the baby. He can feel how you feel and in some situations if you are over stressed you can even kill your own baby this way- i did with my first. I was like 2 1/2 & was extremely stressed- i lost him/her right away.

The baby can hear things sometimes in the second trimester. They don't understand words however, but will recognize voices of the people commonally around the mother at birth. Classical music is very mathmatical and yes, does boost intelligence. The baby does sense how the mother feels. However the baby also has it's own personality. Just because a mother is stressed in pregnancy, doesn't mean you will have a cranky baby. The baby does sense or feel what is going on with mommy, but it still its' own person. They say that babies who are unwanted grow up feeling unloved, even if the parents keep it. That feeling from pregnancy is carried through life

OK to answer question 1: I recently watched "In the Womb on the discovery channel. It says the baby can hear things going on outside of the womb but it is really muffled. It hears the mother better than anything but is still muffled.
Question 2: I don't know if classical music makes the baby smarter, but there have been studies done on school age kids and it is believed that if they listen to classical music while testing they do better.
Question 3: The baby doesn't KNOW that you are stressed or scared but it senses the change in your body and reacts to that change.
Hope that helps. Good luck and congratulations

There has been NO link to intelligence and playing music no matter what someone may say on here. I know because I watched it on discovery health channel. It also will not make them a musical genius. The baby at best can hear muffles. They did a test where they played music that moms had played to there babies throughout the pregnancy. When they tested the newborns with the exact music, they did not recognize the music being played to them when they were outside the womb.Babies can feel stress if mom is stress through body changes so it is best to stay relaxed as much as possible.

Yes to all except the classical music=smarter part. It's been proven that your child can hear you and your husband in the womb. This is so they recognize someone's voice when they come out and feel more comfortable. Also, ask your doctor about the stress- this is one of the worst things for the baby. SHe can definately feel it when you're stressed and she feels it too, so be careful. ANy music is good for her, anything soothing anyways. I don't think there's any proof that it makes you smarter though. Even reading books to her will make her happy! Good luck!

You need to grab the book called What to Expect When You're Expecting. It answers so many questions you will have about pregnancy! The baby does feel your stress so you have to be careful. He/She can hear your voices, but doesn't understand what you are saying. I have heard that they will recognize the tone upon birth, but I don't know if that is true or not. As far as the classical music goes, I'd do it just because it might work...plus it's bonding time with your baby where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful music too. Congratulations!

The baby can hear your voices, but they are muffled. They say babies are attached to their mothers because they are used to their voice and smell. I don't know that classical music really makes a baby smarter, but I play a classical lullaby CD to my baby to lull him to sleep at night, it definitely relaxes them and would probably do so in utero. I will probably get some negative feedback on this, but I don't think that the baby can tell when the mother is stressed, but I do think that stress is not good for you when pregnant, it can cause premature labor, etc.
