would 3 ounces of iron on the earth, 3 pounds of pencils on the moon, or 1 pound of coffee on the earth weigh more? (please help me)

1 pound = 16 ounces

gravity on the Moon = 1/6 gravity on Earth

1 pound Earth = 16 ounces Earth
3 pounds Moon = 3 * 16 / 6 ounces = 8 ounces
So 1 pound (16 ounces of coffee, the material is irrelevant) > 3 pounds on the Moon (8 ounces of pencils) > 3 ounces on Earth.

It could be a trick question, as a pound is a measure of force.

1 lb is 1 lb no matter where it is.

But if we are talking of pound equivalent mass, then the lbmass of coffee on earth weighs 16/3 what the iron weighs, and the lbmass of pencils weighs 3 lbs times 1/6 gravity feild... so it weighs 1/2 pound or 8 oz.

Would be much easier with metric.

I wonder when America will grow up and use a simple measuring system that is the same as everybody's number system (10's).

The three pounds of pencils are obviously the heaviest because they contain the most lead.
