Personally I prefer it for many reasons, some of which are:

- The security. I finally made the permanent switch away from IE when surfing to a particular website with IE got my system instantly raped with loads of spyware. Firefox doesn't even flinch when I go to the same website and I've had no other virus or spyware issues since making the switch.
- The extensions. There are literally thousands of excellent and free extensions available for Firefox that do all sorts of cool and useful things, some of which I couldn't live without any more, and IE has nothing like this at all.
- Advert blocking. And I don't mean pop-up blocking, I mean that there are two Firefox extensions you can install (Adblock Plus and Filterset.G Updater)that will automatically remove all adverts (banners, etc) from all webpages without you having to do a thing. I haven't seen a single annoying advert on the web for about a year now and, during brief forays back into IE, I know I couldn't live with them any more. It makes surfing the net a peaceful and enjoyable experience again and is worth making the switch for alone.
- Skins. IE, and indeed the default Firefox are ugly looking beasts, but there's hundreds of nice skins you can install for Firefox that make it look much more attractive. A small thing perhaps but you'd be surprised how much difference it makes. I'm currently using this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3761/previews/

Firefox is, in my oppinion, superior to Internet Explorer in every way.

It's faster, safer, easier to use... But the one aspect that wins me over again and again are the add-ons.

There are thousands!

Adblock Plus - block ads - flash ads, banner ads, etc. and save the bandwidth and the cookie hassles that these would have created.
Download Statusbar - puts your downloads at the bottom of your screen instead of an irritating pop-up.
FoxyTunes - control your music player without leaving Firefox.
Noscript - increase your security by only allowing JavaScript when it's needed!
CookieSafe - increase your privacy by only allowing cookies when they're needed!
AJAX Yahoo! Mail - open and read 1 to 10 to 20 e-mails all on one page.

All in all, the web's a lot easier and more fun in Firefox.

I just installed Firefox yesterday and I start using it. I also import all my favorite to bookmark in Firefox. Things I like Firefox over IE are:

1) Tab Features (Just heard IE 7.0 already has it)
2) Download in stay in one place especially if you download a lot of stuff
3) Free copy. If you install IE 7.0, you need to you use original license. In case you use illegal copy of windows, to get the most updated browser, Firefox is the choice. :D

IE copied most of firefoxes features for the newest version, but firefox does have better "phishing" scam protection. Plus theres tons of plugins for firefox to customize its functionality for yourself

firefox has a better reputation for security and picking up spyware/adware

it is mostly personal prefrence, but firefox has a bazillion different customizations and addons that are pretty cool. it also has quite a few more security choices than ie

IE is full of security risks; constantly having to upgrade and install patches. We've been using Mozilla on both home and work pc's; not one problem.

Plus.. you can have 1 brower window with multiple tabs; each tab being a seperate brower window. Nice and easy to navigate.

Go for it!

Firefox has pros and cons to it. It is also a matter of personal preference. Myself, I use IE for general browsing, but use Firefox for secure transactions due to it have a better rep for security. You can have both on your computer, compare them, and see which one you like for yourself. Good luck.

I like Slimbrowser the best. It has a lot of features and the popups and other spam and problems haven't found it yet. Each browser has different free features that you personally may like or dislike. You could download them all and see what you like best as it's somewhat personal. And you can run them all at once, even.
