The 5.0 is a motor without a lot of potential. There are things you CAN do to help it. My son has a '92 Caprice wagon and we put stainless headers, turbo muffler, K&N air filter, new ignition parts, and a performance chip in it, and it made a very noticeable difference in performance.......enough to justify the expense?
depends on your attitude, I guess.....my wife says NO, I say YES.

how about a cam? i prefer an RV grind. headers and an exhaust system. better intake. maybe some heads. it maybe be cheaper to get new performance heads as opposed to getting your current heads machined. call around the local machine shops and find out how much a good 3 angle valve job would cost you could also port and polish them. your best bet is to get some books on hot rodding small block chevies. also there is a ton of car mags that due chevy buildups.

a 5.0 is a 305ci.... id start with a edelbrock carb w/600 cfm and then get a set of headers with dual exhaust. if you want more you can get a edelbrock "top end kit"... which has a new cam, high performance heads, and a new intake manifold. all which go perfect togeather. and give you about 400hp and fit any chevy smallblock

Get some exhaust work done.. free flow muffs... true duals.. then upgrade your filter to a K+N .. or a cold air box setup ... then if you want you could look into a chip and programmer.. High perf. plugs wires and ignition and prem. fuel helps too prob do all that for under a G if you shop round

u could have the timing reset and put a better cam in, have it tuned up, switch to synthetic oil(assuming the gaskets wont leak) and i think u could run a higher premium of gas in the car
