No really, they are leaders with multiple degrees, usually masters some PHD's in fields such as medicine, astronomy, engineering etc.
they are also EXTREMELY politically astute, ans the biggest yes-men you will ever meet.

I know some astronauts with Ph.D's in physics, and some that went to the Air Force Academy. It depends on what you want to do. Be a pilot? Join the Air Force. Be a mission specialist? Get a Ph.D.
