There are some excellent published books that are collections of urban legends. Two of the best are The Encyclopedia of Urban Legends and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwarz (sp?).

www.snopes.com is also a good source.

An example would be the story of the teenage couple making out at inspiration point when they hear a news broadcast on the radio that a crazed killer has escaped from a local insane asylum. He is easy to recognize because he has a hook for a right hand. The girl thinks they should go home, the boy thinks they should continue to make out. She whines, he gives in, and they go home. When he gets out of the car to open her door, there is a bloody hook hanging from her door handle.

Not only is it a creepy story, but you can see the moral in it, as well. (Making out is bad).

Snopes is a web site dedicated to urban legends -- lots of great pictures & video, and they also dig up the story behind them.
